Join the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma on June 7th for an exclusive hands-on Family Portrait Workshop. Designed for photographers who want to learn how to confidently create a family portrait, and practice professional lighting techniques and photograph families with confidence.

Learning in small groups side by side with professional photographers Elise Breeding and Johnny Holland, you will practice in real-time at a working studio with a guest family to experience the true flow of a session. This class is ideal for photographers who understand the basics of their camera but want to level up their professional output and confidence when working with people.

What We Will Explore:

Posing: Learn how to "build" a family portrait. We will cover how to pose different body types, manage varying heights, and create "connection points" that make a family look unified and natural rather than stiff and posed.
Mastering the Light:
- Natural Light: Finding the "good" light in any location and using reflectors to fill shadows.
- Off-Camera Flash (OCF): Using subtle flash to create professional "pop" and handle difficult midday sun or backlit "Golden Hour" scenarios.
Directing with Confidence: Learn how to take control of a session. We’ll discuss "soft skills” keep energy high and positive.
Composition & Gear: Which focal lengths are best for groups versus individuals, and how to choose backgrounds that add depth without distracting from your subjects.

2026 PPOK Annual Image Competition (July 05, 2026)

The Professional Photographers of Oklahoma (PPOK) annual photographic competition offers two separate divisions for entries. The divisions are Photographic Open and Artist. Participants, also referred to as makers or entrants, can enter cases in one or both divisions. The term “case” consists of the combined four top scoring entries entered by that maker for each division. Only digital entries will be judged.

Image entry is accepting entries at www.printcompetition.com until 11 PM on July 3, 2026. The actual competition will be held online July 5th beginning at 9:00 AM. The judging may be viewed live on www.printcompetition.com.

GENERAL INFO AND RULES

ELIGIBILITY

1. All members of the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma, Inc. (PPOK) are eligible to enter the Photographic Competition. PPOK members who meet the requirements defined below may enter the General Exhibition or, if qualified, the Masters’ Exhibition.

2. Non-resident (out of state) members of the association can compete in the Photographic Competition and are eligible to win any award, under which category they might qualify, as long they have paid registration fees and physically attend the event.

3. Participants who are not PPOK members, and who live outside of Oklahoma may enter the Out-of-State Exhibition.

DEADLINE

1. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE UPLOADED ONLINE at www.printcompetition.com BY 11 PM (CST) FRIDAY, JULY 3rd, 2026. No exceptions will be made except by the Print Chairman, and only in extreme circumstances.

2. No changes to your entries are permitted once the entry deadline has passed. No refunds will be issued after the entry fee is paid.

FEES

1. $15.00 per image/album for PPOK members, including PPOK out of state members.

2. $20.00 per image/album for non-members of PPOK. Non-member residents of Oklahoma are NOT eligible for awards, but will receive print scores. Non-member out of state entrants are only eligible for the Out of State trophy.

Golden Hour to Galaxy: Gloss Mountain Photography Workshop.

Online Registration Opens On August 1st

Capture the rugged beauty of Oklahoma’s "Gloss Mountains" in this immersive, dual-concept photography workshop with Professional Photographers of Oklahoma on September 12^th, 2026

We’ll transition from the high energy of sunset portraiture to the serene, expansive beauty of the Milky Way. In this workshop we will practice our lighting and low light camera skills with 2 amazing professional photographers, collaborate with fellow photographers and have an amazing fall adventure.

The Itinerary

3:00 PM – Fuel & Fellowship (Bricktown Brewery, Enid) We’ll kick things off at Bricktown Brewery in Enid. This is our "pre-game" session to meet the team, have fun and network, and go over the plan for the evening while enjoying dinner.
4:30 PM – The Convoy We head out toward Gloss Mountain State Park, timed to arrive as the light begins to soften. You may also meet us at the entrance to the park if you choose not to meet up in Enid for dinner.
5:15ish Portraits & Off-Camera Flash (OCF) Once on-site, we’ll work with Dawn Muncy for a mini lesson in off camera flash using a model against the backdrop of the iconic mesas.
Twilight – As the sun dips below the horizon, we’ll pivot our focus. Elise Breeding will go over the basics of night sky photography and starting point settings.
Nightfall – Astro Photography With its minimal light pollution, Gloss Mountain is one of the best spots in the region for stargazing. We’ll capture the Milky Way, practicing long exposures on the unique gypsum formations.
